My word to catalyze a dream-filled 2024

Well, 2023 is almost a wrap. As you reflect on what you created (and what you didn’t), what dream(s) would you love to bring to fruition in the upcoming months?
I like to select a “word of the year” that acts as a guidepost and catalyst for growth, new direction… and some full-on magic.
My word for 2024 is YES.
I am choosing to say “yes” to events, experiences, and invitations that are true for me… meaning aligned with my heart and my intention.
Why?
Because I have seen what can transpire and transform, for yourself and others, when you say a hearty yes to this adventure we call life.
Earlier this year, a group of enthusiastic, adventurous women had the courage to say “yes” to their dream of going to Africa—for the first time. They signed up and showed up for a life-changing adventure into the unknown, with me as their leader, on an 11-day tour of Namibia.
“I’m so grateful to have said yes to your invitation. I learned my adventure pathways are alive and yearning for more,” said one woman who was on the tour.
Another adventurer stated, “It was truly magical to feel the energy of Namibia, seeing rhinos, elephants, lions, giraffe, zebras, roaming in the wild—a true African experience. It was a trip of a lifetime. One I will never forget.”
Standing on the giant dunes of Namibia’s wild coastline, I too was so grateful I followed my heart and said, “yes!” to this tour’s bold vision.
I almost said “No. It’s just not worth it,” when the going got tough, people were slow to register, and big deposits were on the line. Maybe I could fulfill this big dream another time? Next year. Next trip. Next lifetime.
Then I tuned into my heart—my innocent and vulnerable heart—and a loving, quiet voice came through: “What if you said yes? And committed to going no matter what. You have all the guidance and experience you need, now.”
So I made a commitment—a soul commitment—to say yes to this crazy venture of a tour through Namibia not knowing who or what would show up.
I was leading this tour, and though I had been to 10 African countries, including Namibia, this was my debut “Soul Magic Adventure” in the wilds of southern Africa.
The usual suspects, fear and self-doubt appeared. What if no one signed up? What if something went wrong? What if the elephants and rhinos took the day off?
Then I remembered my choice to say yes to whatever came up; to surrender my fear and need for control; and allow my heart and higher wisdom to guide me.
What happened? Moments of real magic… again and again and again.
Here are a few examples:
- After a day that began with a rocky start and three-hour delay, we arrived at Etosha National Park to see the majesty of 20 elephants walking single file to the watering hole at sunset.
- In a single game drive, we witnessed springtime in Etosha with multiple elephants, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, and ostriches all with their babies… and a lioness, fresh from a kill, on her way home to feed hers.
- On an early morning walk, we got close enough, but not-too-close, to see a leopard and her cubs hidden in the rocks on the property where we were staying!
- We climbed massive red sand dunes with names like “Big Daddy;” and had thrilling, roller-coaster-like rides in 4×4’s up and down the 1000-foot dunes of the Skeleton coast.
- And, in one of my favourite moments, we had breakfast with meerkats.
All of this, and so much more, because we said Yes!
I have seen the power of saying “YES” versus “I can’t,” “maybe next time,” or “not right now,” over and over again in my life, loves, and business.
When you say yes to life, life says yes to you.
