Happy almost Valentine’s Day!
It’s the time of year we officially celebrate love and all things heart-centred, and designate an actual date (Feb. 14) to acknowledge and appreciate the people we love… especially romantic partners.
But why stop there? Love is love, and something that can be celebrated in all relationships not just romantic ones.
Love is one of the most powerful forces in the Universe in bringing into reality what we truly want—more creativity, connection, and community—including in our workplaces and spaces (home offices, online, or out in the field).
So in honour of feeling the love and spreading happiness among the people you work with, a transformational company called Mindvalley created “Love Week.” They decided that Valentine’s Day shouldn’t just be a day for lovers, so now they dedicate an entire week where everybody gets a little appreciation, anonymous gifting, love, and kindness—at work!
Imagine putting some love into the workplace (what a concept) making the place where we spend the majority of our waking hours filled with more connection, happiness, and random acts of appreciation. Consider the ripple effect of that… within the office environment and beyond.
So when is Love Week 2018?
This year it’s February 12-16 – that’s five days of giving and receiving at the office, or wherever you might work.
Think of it as Secret Santa meets Valentine’s Day. Everyone at work draws a name of a person they will do something nice for every day for five days… and the acts of kindness are done anonymously so the “love angel” remains a secret until the week ends.
These small acts of love and generosity might involve flowers and chocolates or more creative gestures like making a co-worker breakfast, writing a poem, or leaving “love notes” on their desk or buying them ice cream.
When Mindvalley started bringing love into the workplace productivity sky-rocketed. Employee engagement, bonding, and social connection increased and people were delighted and excited to come to work. Go figure.
Happiness is the new productivity as Mindvalley CEO and founder Vishen Lakiani says. Studies show happy employees are more engaged, productive, and customer-focused.
And those with true friends at work fare even better. People who have a best friend at work are seven times as likely to be engaged in their job, says Tom Rath, author of Vital Friends: The People You Can’t Afford to Live Without.
In short, sharing and caring at work matters—to people working there and the business itself.
