I am blessed to live on a gorgeous island in the Pacific that CNN recently named one of the 25 most beautiful places in the world. It’s not the first time Vancouver Island has been recognized for its natural beauty, including 2000 miles of rugged coastline, pristine lakes, mountains, and old-growth trees.
I love all of it, especially hiking in the ancient forests where “my elders” are 500 (or more) year-old Douglas firs, Garry oaks, and spiralling Arbutus trees that gift me with their energy and magnificence.
Immersing myself in beautiful natural environments is one of my favourite forms of meditation—to not hear myself think and let the silence do the talking.
In nature, Spirit is ever-present and my fears fall away like leaves in the wind. Here I can listen to my heart, not my head, and the quiet makes space to hear and express my true self.
“To be struck by the magnificence of nature is to be returned again, in all-too-brief-moments, to the innocence in which we were born. Awe. Wonder. Humility.” As author Richard Wagamese writes so poetically.
For me, wandering through extraordinary nature, surrounded by the undeniable presence of Creator/God/All that Is, is where the truth lies—including the truth and innate wisdom that lies within us.
What if we carried that wisdom and sense of wonder back into our lives…and our dreams, visions, and creations? Everyone would benefit.
Some of my greatest epiphanies and intuitive hits have come from being immersed in nature’s energy and awe…at home and around the world.
When I’m able to feel it. Be with it. Use it.
For example, the idea to create and guide soul-inspired adventures for small groups, in Africa and beyond, came to me on a walk by the ocean. Now I’m putting that guidance into action.
